Unlocking the Secrets to Glowing Skin:

Confused on how to get the best from your skin care routine?

Many people, me included, have been confused about how to apply facial products correctly to achieve the best results. As I embarked on my journey to become a beauty professional at the age of 44, I discovered that the products you use are only part of the equation. Equally important is how you apply them. Even the most luxurious serums and creams can fall short if not applied correctly. Whether you’re new to skincare or a seasoned beauty enthusiast, refining your application technique can make a world of difference. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you get the most out of your skincare routine, based on what I’ve learned and some of the products I now prefer to use.

Step-by-Step Guide to Applying Facial Products

 1. Cleansing: The Foundation of Your Routine

How to Apply:

  1. Start with clean hands to prevent the transfer of bacteria.
  2. Use a cleanser suited to your skin type. like a Cleansing Balm or Cleansing Oil.
  3. Use a pea sized amount and massage into the face, you can add a few drops of water to turn into a milky consistency.
  4. Rinse away with a hot face towel thoroughly and pat (don’t rub) your face dry with a clean towel.

Tip: Double cleanse at night to remove makeup and impurities more effectively. Start with an oil-based cleanser like a Cleansing Balm, followed by a Water-based one. The balm can also be used as a weekly Night mask.

  1. Toning: Preparing Your Skin

How to Apply:

  1. Pour a small amount of Toner onto a cotton pad or directly into your palms,
  2. Gently sweep it across your face and neck.
  3. Let it absorb fully before moving on to the next step.

Tip: Look for alcohol-free toners to avoid drying out your skin. Hydrating toners can help balance your skin's pH levels and prep it for better absorption of subsequent products.

  1. Serum: The Powerhouse of Your Routine

How to Apply:

  1. Dispense a few drops of Serum into your palm.
  2. Gently press (don’t rub) the serum into your skin using your fingertips.
  3. Focus on areas of concern, such as fine lines or hyperpigmentation.

Tip: Use different Serums for morning and night to target specific skin issues, like antioxidant serums for daytime protection and retinol for nighttime repair.

4: Facial Oil:

How to Apply:

  1. Take a small amount of Facial Oil , and dab onto the face, concentrating on the dryer areas prone to dry out throughout the day. Facial oils provide deep hydration, balance oil production, nourish with essential fatty acids and antioxidants, improve texture and elasticity, soothe irritation, and enhance the effectiveness of other skincare products.
  1. Eye Cream: Gentle Care for Delicate Skin

How to Apply:

  1. Take a small amount of Eye Cream on your ring finger (it applies the least pressure).
  2. Dab it around the orbital bone, avoiding direct contact with your eyes.
  3. Use a gentle patting motion until the product is fully absorbed.

Tip: Store your eye cream in the fridge for a refreshing, depuffing effect.

  1. Moisturizer: Locking in Hydration

How to Apply:

  1. Apply a small amount of Moisturiser to your face and neck.
  2. Use upward and outward strokes to apply the product evenly.
  3. Be gentle, especially around the delicate skin of your eyes.

Tip: Choose a moisturiser that suits your skin type. For oily skin, a Gel-based moisturizer works best, while dry skin benefits from a Richer, Cream-Based formula, try switching it up at night time to a Night Cream.

  1. Sunscreen: Your Shield Against Damage if your Moisturiser doesn’t contain SPF.

How to Apply:

  1. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30
  2. Apply a generous amount (about a teaspoon) to your face and neck.
  3. Reapply every two hours when exposed to sunlight.

Tip: Even on cloudy days or when indoors, it’s crucial to apply sunscreen as UV rays can penetrate windows and clouds.

 Once a week Exfoliate: Why?

Weekly Facial Exfoliation offers several benefits, including:

  • removing dead skin cells, which helps to unclog pores and prevent acne.
  • It promotes smoother, brighter skin by enhancing cell turnover.
  • Exfoliation also improves the absorption of skincare products, making them more effective.
  • Additionally, it can even out skin tone and texture, reducing the appearance of fine lines and hyperpigmentation.
  • Regular exfoliation stimulates blood circulation, promoting a healthy, radiant complexion.

However, it’s important to choose the right Exfoliant for your skin type to avoid irritation.

Extra Tips for Enhanced Results

  1. Patch Test New Products: Before integrating a new product into your routine, perform a patch test to check for any adverse reactions.
  2. Layering Order: Apply products from thinnest to thickest consistency. This ensures that lighter products, like serums, can penetrate the skin without being blocked by heavier creams.
  3. Be Consistent: Consistency is key in skincare. Stick to your routine to see long-term benefits.
  4. Listen to Your Skin: Pay attention to how your skin reacts to products and adjust your routine accordingly. Sometimes less is more.

Conclusion

Mastering the art of applying facial products can transform your skincare routine, ensuring that you get the maximum benefits from each product. Remember, it’s not just about what you use but how you use it. By following these steps and tips, you’ll be well on your way to achieving healthy, glowing skin. Happy pampering!
